Breakfast served in an ÖBB WLAB 70-70 sleeping-car
(serviced by Wagons-Lits Austria). Included in the fare are
four components for breakfast (which can be freely chosen),
anything more costs extra. In this case: Coffee with milk
and sugar, two rolls, blueberry jam and cheese.

In 1955, the CIWL received a series of new stainless steel
sleeping cars type P with twenty small single-bed compartments,
24.05 m long. In the mid-1990s, the 40-year-old cars were
still in a good state, so CIWL Oostende modernized a number
of them for the ÖBB, NS and NMBS/SNCB with ten spacious three-bed
compartments. The windows on the compartment side were renewed
(two small windows per compartment). Even among much more recent
rolling stock in today's night trains, the type P still doesn't
appear outdated (except perhaps for its manual doors), just
different. This one is in the EN 464 ZÜRICHSEE from Graz to
Zürich. Graz Hbf, 2001-08-28.

ÖBB sleeping-car type P at the end of a night train in Linz.
Built in 1955 for CIWL with a new stainless steel carbody. Originally
equipped with small "upper" and "lower" single-bed compartments,
these cars were rebuilt in the 90s and now have 10 three-bed
compartments.

More than four decades are between these two coaches in the
EN 324 "Donauwalzer" Wien - Brussels: Left is a couchette car
73 81 59-91, built 2001 by Siemens SGP and Bombardier Dunakeszi,
airtight and with pneumatic suspension, right is a sleeping car
61 81 70-70, built 1955 by Ansaldo and Carel-Fouché as
CIWL type P and completely refurbished 1992 by Wagons-Lits
Oostende. The stainless steel carbody after a Budd patent was
unusual and expensive in its time, but you see the advantage -
it lasts forever .... Note also the similar but not quite
identical liveries (different shades of blue).
