StLB line Bad Gleichenberg - Feldbach.
The white vertical bar with red on top marks the end of a section with
multiple road crossings where the driver has to whistle repeatedly.
The black/white striped vertical bar in the background marks the
track contact for the next automatic level crossing.

StLB line Bad Gleichenberg - Feldbach. Double curve north of Gnas
with modernized catenary (prepared for a later conversion to 15 kV
AC). Currently this is an isolated line with 1.8 kV DC, the connecting
ÖBB line in Feldbach is not electrified. When the overhead wires
were renewed between Feldbach and Gnas (1991 to 1994), the line was
prepared for a conversion to the standard system, should the ÖBB
line be electrified one day.

StLB line Bad Gleichenberg - Feldbach. Curved section with new
skew catenary (prepared for high voltage) north of Gnas. If the
poles are on the inside of the curve, these very long brackets
are necessary to support the skew catenary.

StLB line Bad Gleichenberg - Feldbach. Curved section with new
skew catenary (prepared for high voltage) north of Gnas. As you
can see, the catenary is tilted by about 60° in curves,
which allows the wire to follow the curve, an elegant way to
reduce the number of poles required in tight curves. This
system is also common for some Swiss narrow gauge railways, but
is not usually found on mainlines as it is not suited for higher
speeds. Only the contact wire is tensioned with weights.

StLB line Bad Gleichenberg - Feldbach. Here you can see how
the catenary is skewed at the end of a curve.

StLB line Bad Gleichenberg - Feldbach. A nice example of the
many curves and changes of gradient on this line, which
closely follows the hilly landscape without any tunnels or
viaducts. Here the skew overhead wire with new high voltage
insulators is supported by the old lattice pylons.

StLB line Bad Gleichenberg - Feldbach. Final approach to
Feldbach. On the right you can see the non-electrified ÖBB
line to Szentgotthard. I believe this is the only real main
signal of the whole line - the entrance signal of Feldbach.
The StLB follows the ÖBB's convention of painting the last
overhead masts before a main signal white/red/white.
