Elle a été la locomotive de l'Europe des années 1960 et devait, comme ses sœurs françaises identiques que sont le CC 40100, circuler sous quatre systèmes d'alimentation différents, en emmenant à 240 km/h les hommes d'affaires pressés des luxueux trains climatisés. La réalité fut légèrement différente : il manqua un vrai esprit européen pour construire le réseau à grande vitesse qui démarra en fait dans les années 1990 avec l'Eurostar.

Vitesse : 160 à 240 km/h
Puissance : 3670 à 4480 kW
