The Moresnet bridge on the line from Aachen West to Montzen and Visé seen from the south side on 20 April 2003. Currently the bridge is being renewed. On this weekend the third and the fourth segment (counting from the western end) were replaced, with the first two new segments being in place for five weeks then. The new segments are assembled at Montzen station and brought to the bridge by rail (using both tracks), together with the red gantries used to mount them. When the columns of the gantry are fixed at the pillars and the transporting train is removed, the old segment can be cut into three pieces, while it is supported by cables from the gantry. The old segment number four (right) was already lowered to the ground, and the new segment is in place. At number three the central part is being winched down, the other pieces will follow later. The old segments are latter scrapped on the ground, at number two this is already in progress. On the left a rail crane is visible on the bridge, obviously it will be needed for the track building later.
