The new station of Liège-Guillemins
Since 1999 , Liège-Guillemins is completely being rebuilt into a new station , due to the commissioning of High Speed Line 3 (Chenêe - Welkenraedt) in 2007.The station is moved some 600m to the east , and will get a massive roof structure. All platforms will probably be some 410m long , so that each platform can accommodate a double TGV.
The new station has been designed by Santiago Calatrava , the same architect that designed the marvellous Lyon-Saint-Exupéry TGV Aéroport station , and the Lisbon Oriente station.
At this stage (08/2005) , already 6 of the 30 arches are pushed in place.(On the picture we see only 3 of the 30 in place).
For more information , visit the site of Euro Liège TGV , the subsidiary of the SNCB/NMBS responsible of the construction of the new station.
