Two locomotives from the Mezdra depot provide the traction for a freight train from the Obedinena station to the port of Lom. The two machines are 43 554.5 and 45 159.1 and were photographed close to the station of Lakatnik. 8 October 2005

On 2 March 2005 locomotive 43 555.2 from the depot in Mezdra makes a surprising appearance at Sofia's Central Railway Station heading a fast train from Vidin to Sofia. The engine drivers were very friendly and shared that a class-45 machine had broken down so 43 555 had to lend a helping hand for the train. The locomotive change must have been swift because the train arrived with only a 10-minute delay.

Locomotive 43 555 with the blue cars of stopping train 20111 Sofia - Gorna Oryahovitsa. With a trip duration of more than 6 hours this is one of the longest routes for a stopping train in Bulgaria. 6 March 2007

After an overhaul at its home-depot in Varna and a repainting at Dupnitsa to freshen its previously battered appearance, locomotive 43 556 is seen in service again, crossing Sofia's Central Station on its way to Poduene marshalling yard. Later on that day (1 October 2006) 43 556 was spotted on a freight train from Sofia to Pernik.

On 22 September 2005 locomotive 43 556.0 of the depot in Varna was spotted at the head of fast train 3661 Burgas-Kaspichan which consists entirely of direct cars for Ruse. At Kaspichan they are attached to another fast train which takes them to their final destination. The two coffee cups on the front of the locomotive provide some much needed stimulation to the engine drivers for their four-hour-long trip through the Stara Planina mountain. SOLDIERING ON: A nice double traction set-up, consisting of two rugged machines from the depot of Varna. Locomotives 43 556.0 and 42 143.8 leave Kaspichan with a freight train heading for Gorna Oryahovitsa. In the morning of the same day (9 December 2005) this same pair arrived at Kaspichan with another freight affair from Varna and after a couple of hours' rest took on hauling this train.
