SOLDIERING ON: A nice double traction set-up, consisting of two rugged machines from the depot of Varna. Locomotives 43 556.0 and 42 143.8 leave Kaspichan with a freight train heading for Gorna Oryahovitsa. In the morning of the same day (9 December 2005) this same pair arrived at Kaspichan with another freight affair from Varna and after a couple of hours' rest took on hauling this train. On 22 September 2005 locomotive 43 556.0 of the depot in Varna was spotted at the head of fast train 3661 Burgas-Kaspichan which consists entirely of direct cars for Ruse. At Kaspichan they are attached to another fast train which takes them to their final destination. The two coffee cups on the front of the locomotive provide some much needed stimulation to the engine drivers for their four-hour-long trip through the Stara Planina mountain. After an overhaul at its home-depot in Varna and a repainting at Dupnitsa to freshen its previously battered appearance, locomotive 43 556 is seen in service again, crossing Sofia's Central Station on its way to Poduene marshalling yard.
