| In 2003 the SBB CFF FFS started operating the lines from Basel SBB and Weil am Rhein via Lörrach to Zell im Wiesental, after an interim service with NPZ units they took 30 FLIRT units RABe 521 into service, which are low-floor and airconditioned. With two trains each hour on each line, this helped to considerably increase ridership. Each unit has two pantographs, one wide for Germany, one narrow for Switzerland - but for the lines where they normally operate, only the wide pantograph is needed. Here we see the 94 85 0 521 006-2 in Lörrach, 2011-09-29. |
