Brig is the largest city in the "Oberwallis" German-speaking section of the canton of Valais, while Sion (Setten in German) is the cantonal capital of Valais, and is in the French-speaking part of Valais, known as "Valais Romande".  The station announcements are primarily in German, as opposed to French, Italian or English, which come after the German announcements.  For those travelling eastward to Chur, this is the last station that a Eurail Pass or similar pass is accepted.  Those travelling via Disentis / Muster on to Chur must buy a special ticket for the Gletscherbahn.
