Steam locomotive GENF (No. 28) built 1858 by Maschinenfabrik Esslingen for the Schweizerische Centralbahn as one of 26 Engerth-type locomotives Ec 3/5. Switzerland's oldest operating steam locomotive. The tender is supporting the rear section of the boiler, the locomotive has no buffers but simple buffer beams and a "link and pin" coupling system, so it can only operate with replica cars built for this system. In 1875 the GENF received a new boiler, buffers and a cab. From 1898 it was used as a stationary steam heating engine in Olten. In 1947 it was restored to its original appearance and in 1958 made operational once again. It ran in 1957/1958, 1976 and 1978, and was overhauled once again in 2008. The locomotive is owned by SBB Historic and has its home at the transport museum of Lucerne.
