The steam locomotive E 164 was built in 1905 by Henschel & Sohn in Cassel as MD 404. It has building number 7022. It was used in the Douro Valley in Portugal till 1989. It startd service on the Corgo line which starts in Regua and goes Vila Real to Chaves. After World War II it was renumbered to CP E 164 and moved to Tamega line which goes from Livraçaõ to Arco de Baúlhe. In the seventies the locomotive was moved to the Tua-line Tua - Mirandela - Bragança. In 1992 La Traction bought E 164 from CP and it was moved in December 1992 by road to Delémont, where it could be seen outside a foundery on the line to Basel. In May 1998 the locomotiver was transferred by rail to DB workshop in Meiningen for general overhaul. A new boiler was built and an air break was installed. In July 1999 she went back by rail an was put into service. Several technical problems limited the regular use till 2000. A hot box stopped the engine again in June 2002 and it has to be recast. After this repair, which has been done in the La Traction depot in Pré-Petitjean, a test ride with maximum charge has been done on the 27th of July 2002. The locomotive E 164 with the trailer BC 774 (ex BOB 204) and a standard gauge wood wagon on two transporter lorries is waiting in Bollement been passed by a regular CJ train. Photo by Theo Stolz ;
