They could continue further, into France, but SNCF does not want them to, so you have to change trains to reach Chamonix and St-Gervais-les-Bains. This narrow gauge railway has a cog rail section on its steep scenic climb out of the Rhône valley and can get its current from either third rail or overhead wires.
