EC 172 Vindobona with ČD 380 locomotive
The EC 172 Vindobona (Villach - Wien - Praha - Berlin - Hamburg) is currently pulled by a ČD class 380 locomotive between Villach and Praha hl.n. (september to december 2014).
It started 1957 as a train Berlin - Wien with an old pre-war SVT of the DR, followed by various DMUs of the DR, ČSD and ÖBB. In 1979 the train changed to a locomotive-hauled consist, again over the year the rolling stock changed between the three railway companies involved. Today it is composed of ÖBB coaches, with locomotive changes in Praha (to ČD 371) and Dresden (to DBAG 120.1).
With the next timetable change in december 2014 this traditional train will disappear, to be replaced by EC Porta Bohemica (Budapest - Hamburg). Daytime travellers Wien - Berlin will have to wait an hour in a Czech station due to an alternating 2-hour rhythm.
I took this photo at 7:40 in the morning, thanks to the change to winter time there is already daylight but not a lot - so sorry for the blur, I couldn't decipher the locomotive number.
