Dampflokfest Dresden, 30 April 2000 This is a new DMU-2 for longer branch lines. The similarity with the Talent is no surprise when you know that both trains have been styled by Alexander Neumeister. In summer 2000 trains of this type will begin service on the lines Chemnitz - Aue, Zwickau - Johanngeorgenstadt and Heidenau - Altenberg.

DB DMU 642 004, Gera Hbf DB diesel railcar 642 004 parked under the platform roof of Gera Hbf, display 'no boarding'. Class 642 units are mainly used on branch lines and regional lines. They were manufactured by Siemens under the brand 'Desiro' since 1999/2000 and have a maximum speed of 120 km/h. Besides the 234 units purchased by DB until 2007, various private German rail companies are also using Desiro DMUs. Photo taken Sunday 13 December 2009. DB DMU 642 009, Nossen DB diesel railcar 642 009/509 with winterproof coupler and advertising 'Auto haben ... Bahn fahren' waiting at Nossen for deparure towards Meißen. Due to trackworks at Meißen RB 26370 started more than 10 minutes later at Nossen (15:58) and ended at Meißen Triebischtal (16:20) instead of Meißen main station. 642 009 was put into service 25 May 2000 in Thuringia (look at the coat of arms on the photo) and later redeployed in Saxony.
