DB 280 005-0 (Krauss-Maffei 1952). First number V80 005. Used with passenger trains around Frankfurt (Main) until 1963, then moved to Bamberg. Out of DB service in 1978. It was sold to Edile Ferroviaria Nicola Cioce SLR Bari, Italy and used there as T 4509. In 2008 it was acquired by DBMuseum and restored to its appearance of the early 1970s, as a replacement for the V80 002 destroyed by fire in 2005. Koblenz-Lützel, 2020-10-03.

280_005-0_KKOL2.jpg (154143 bytes)

DB 280 005-0 (Krauss-Maffei 1952). Only ten locomotives of class 280 were built, equipped with a Maybach 12 cylinder engine of 810 kW, hydrodynamic transmission and cardan shafts. This principle was taken over for most diesel locomotives built afterwards. In practice it was not powerful enough for mainline trains and the wide hoods made shunting impractical because low level signals could not be seen. Hence it was not built in larger series and instead class V100 developed, delivered from 1958 on. Koblenz-Lützel, 2020-10-03.
