V 180 005 and V 240 001 during the steam locomotive festival 1997, Bw Dresden-Altstadt. Both locomotives have been repainted in their original colours. Dampflokfest 2001, Dresden-Altstadt, 2001-04-28 DR V 240 001 in special silver/blue livery. This locomotive originally had more powerful motors than the V 180 and was intended for heavy express trains on unelectrified lines, but the government decided to import locomotives from the CCCP instead, so this locomotive was eventually rebuilt into a normal V180 locomotive. Today it has the special original colours again; it is fully operational except for the steam generator. Photo: tobias b köhler
