the 110 (streamlined shape, blue livery, silver roof) is the most elegant
one.

28 June 1996, station: Karlsruhe-Durlach, Germany
DB AG electric 110 271-4 (recently transferred from the depot at Frankfurt to Saarbrücken) in the original blue livery, with regional train SE 3160 (Offenburg - Heidelberg - Saarbrücken - Trier). This locomotive had been delivered with the older "boxy" body, but after an accident in the seventies it was rebuilt with a new body in the newer "aerodynamic" style, nicknamed "Bügelfalte" by German railway enthusiasts for the vertical "crease" on the front.

A quick dash to the other end of the station and we just managed to picture
110-348 again this time with the famous Dom in the background. The train
would really have looked the part if not for an IC painted coach in the centre!
The date was April 14th 2005.

The run round from Koln Hbf to West is only a short one but on one occasion
these locos were conveniently lined-up for a photograph by us...which we were
happy to take! From left to right 110-348, 103-113, a special livered Belgium class 16,
which used to appear regularly at the Hbf, and a DB class 215. The date was
April 14th 2005.

Now seeing this historic loco on a train really was fortunate. We decided to
leave Koln West and return briefly to Hbf for a bite to eat when James noticed not only was the blue loco
now on a train, but more significantly the pantograph was raised and a driver was in the cab! Not long after
we had positioned ourselves on the platform it appeared, slowly approaching the station
alongside a regional train hauled by 111-112. The date was April 14th 2005.
