423 037-1 arrives at Buir as leading unit of an S 13 from Cologne to Düren
on 18 February 2003.

423 192-4 leads S 8327 from Hennef, arriving at Sindorf on 13 June 2004. It was
the first train to be reversed here, as from the summer timetable 2004 on all
trains of the S 12 (before it was S 13) run at least to Sindorf, instead of
reversing already at Horrem.

S 8381 to Düren, headed by 423 193-2, seen east of Buir on 30
September 2006. At this point of the
upgraded
line Cologne-Düren, an about 1.5 kilometres long section of the S-Bahn
(suburban railway) line is currently extended from one to two tracks.

423 199-9 is the leading unit of S 8594 (Troisdorf-Köln Hansaring)
arriving at Köln/Bonn Airport on 13 June 2004. It was the first day of
regular service at the new airport station. The S 13 line used to run to
Düren in the past (what is now done by the S 12), now it serves the
airport. On the first day rides were free, and a huge number of people came.

2003. The second unit is 423 294-8. Both units are quite new, they were taken
into service on 4 July.

423 691-5 is the leading unit of an S 13 from Düren to Cologne, seen
stopping at Horrem on 8 February 2003.

S 8431 (Au-Düren) seen near the overtaking station Dorsfeld (on
Cologne-Aachen), between the stops Sindorf and Buir, in the evening of 15 July
2006. The train consisting of two unidentified class 423 EMUs uses the leftmost
of the three tracks which is dedicated for the S-Bahn (suburban railway).

On many lines into the VRR (Verkehrsverbund Rhein Ruhr) the class 422 was taken out of service, supposed caused by software problems. So many services are done with old rolling stock like class 143 with x-cars again. And other DB-divisions lend further vehicles. In this way on 1st of May 2011 could be observed 423 046-2 in Dortmund Hbf. Commonly the class 423 does not reach the Eastern part of Ruhr-area. Photo ©Arnim v. Herff |
