The old class 430 was one of the "egg head" streamlined classes, now the number is re-used for an evolution of the class 423 and 422. This variant is designed to replace class 420 on the S-Bahn Stuttgart (from 2012) and Frankfurt/Rhein-Main (from 2015). The end has been redesigned according to the latest crashworthiness standards, and this meant to reduce the length of the middle cars so that the total length is not exceeded. 430 036 shown on InnoTrans, Berlin, September 2012.
