01432_ICE_1_Jenbach.jpg (129915 bytes)

ICE 1 arriving on platform 3 at Jenbach, Austria.

This is the 08.25 from Innsbruck to Berlin Ostbannhof via Wörgl Hbf, Kufstein, Rosenheim, München Hbf,
Augsburg Hbf, Ulm Hbf, Stuttgart Hbf, Mannheim Hbf, Frankfurt(Main)Hbf, Hanau Hbf, Fulda,
Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe, Göttingen, Hildesheim Hbf, Braunschweig Hbf, Berlin-Spandau, Berlin Hbf
and Berlin Ostbahnhof.

The German Baureihe 401 EMUs, better known as ICE 1, were the first German high-speed trains serving
the Inter City Express network. While classified as electric multiple units, they are actually conventional
trains with two locomotives (called power heads) and 10 to 14 carriages in between. The two power heads'
combined power output of 9,600 kW is sufficient to accelerate a full train to 174 mph (280 km/h).

Photographed 9th February 2007.

28 May 1999;

ICE "Prinz Eugen" from Vienna to Hamburg passing the Melk abbey on the Westbahn between Vienna and Linz.

This is the most famous sight on the whole western mainline from Vienna to Salzburg but in the near future tourists travelling by train won't see this place anymore. A new bypass line through a tunnel is under construction and only regional trains will remain using the existing route on this section.
