The first narrow bridge crossing the upgraded line Cologne-Düren (ABS 4) west of Buir seen from west on 23 August 2001. The old bridge which crossed the two old tracks on the right was removed long ago, now a new bridge is built that will also cross the two highspeed tracks which will be built on the left. Note that there is no pillar in the middle and the pillars are some meters away from the tracks, this should prevent that a derailed train destroys the bridge like it happened in Eschede. The new street tunnel in Buir on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren (ABS 4) seen from west on 23 August 2001. The new highspeed tracks above the tunnel are under construction. When they are in service, the old tracks on the right can be removed to continue the tunnel. Then the old tracks will be rebuilt for the S-Bahn (urban trains). The highspeed tracks on it seem to be more or less finished, also the catenary of the northern track is already present.
