Veolia E 189 095 served a train for Dortmunder Eisenbahn on 14th of June 2008. Here the train is parked in Viersen. Usually on this place trains change direction if they come from Venlo and are bound for Krefeld or vice versa, but on this day the catenary between Breyell and Venlo was broken. Built for DB Railion, 189 095 (STS 21081/2005) was sold to MRCE and got in February 2008 a new black livery (Lok Report 5/2008, p. 26). Meanwhile it is rented to Veolia which operates it for DE. Veolia's subsidiary Dortmunder Eisenbahn tested new locomotives for their coil shuttle service between the steel-mills in Duisburg and the rolling-mills in Dortmund. (Yes, coils are already the product of a rolling-mill. But in Duisburg exists "compound-factories" of steel- and rolling-mills: Put liquid pig-iron in and get coils of heavy plates out. Sophisticated rolling will be done in Dortmund.) One of them was Veolia's E 37 507 a Alstom built type Prima. Here on 1st of November 2007 in Essen-Altenessen. Photo ©Arnim v. Herff |

Hoesch was taken over by Krupp into the nineties. Krupp was taken over by Thyssen around the year 2K... And now this: It looks like a Dortmunder Eisenbahn, but inscriptions say it is a factory-locomotive by Hoesch. Joke or realitiy? Seen in Witten on 20th of July 2008. Photo ©Arnim v. Herff |
