Kokerei_1.jpg (104310 bytes)

Another utilization for railways: For extinguish the coke in its producing facilities. After finishing the coking process of coal the doors behind the train will be opened and the coke falls at the car. Now in touch with the air the coke starts burning. The automated train starts its "trip" (maybe 100 meters maximum) to the tower where the fire will be put out ...

... some hundred liters of water brings the impressive spectacle to an end with a big cloud in a few seconds. No it isn't narrow gauge, tracks has the common 1435 mm. The vehicles are much higher than common ones. Thyssen, Duisburg-Bruckhausen February 2003.

Untill March this show is history. This factory is closed and another one is opened. The principle will be the same at the new one, but it looks very different. Sorry guys, I have to wait with this pictures to avoid the accusation of industrial espionage.

In the loading facilities for the coke a vehicle is needed to shunt the train after filling one car a car-length forward. Locomotives will be too expensive for that use. But a automated Tele Trac built by Windhoff will do it perfectly.

Torppfan.jpg (130230 bytes)

Faszination Torpedopfannenwagen.

Fascinating "Torpedos". This 16-axles-wagons by Thyssen Krupp Steel weight up to 360 metric tonns with full load. It does transportation of liquid iron (heated up to 1400° C) between furnace and steel works or foundrys in the Ruhr-area.
