closely derived from earlier Bomz types, but equipped with GP200 bogies for 200 km/h
and a new interior, intended for Intercity trains in East Germany. With the delivery
of more ICE units, they weren't needed as Intercity anymore, running in night trains
for a few years before going to EuroThurbo (alex).

alex Bm 50 46 21-33 137-1, ex DR Bomz 236 (Halberstadt 1991). Refurbishment for alex
includes new seat covers, one toilet was replaced by a bicycle compartment, and a new
paint (not everyone likes this livery). Soon EuroThurbo will give up its involvement
in alex, which will then be operated by Arriva/Länderbahn only. The trains will
run to Oberstdorf and Lindau for the next ten years; the rolling stock will be given
another overhaul with new seat covers and a livery in Arriva turquoise with light grey
and a yellow stripe. Additional cars are being rebuilt at this moment.

side. While the interior of the alex trains is regularly cleaned, the
outside isn't all that clean and the white livery shows the dirt rather
soon. I have no idea what the designer wanted to express with the
randomly placed chessboard patterns. The new livery will be more elegant,
with a turquoise window band and yellow stripe underneath.

compartment. The seats are the same as built, only fabrics have been replaced
and curtains removed - these seats are less comfortable than those in Eurofima
cars, they are not as adjustable and narrower (leaving half a seat width of
space on one side, so you can stretch out your legs between the two seats in
front).
