lw_crane_bu1.jpg (123302 bytes)

A Gottwald GS 150.14 TR railway crane is lifting the points section of a new switch at the upgraded line Cologne-Düren east of Buir on 3 March 2007. The switch seems to be of the standard type with 2500 m turnout radius, which can be passed with up to 140 km/h in the diverging branch. It is installed here for the relocation of the junction where the S-Bahn (suburban railway) line becomes double tracked, currently this junction is about 1.5 km further west. It was pre-assembled next to the track, now it is lifted to the point of installation. Note the complex control mechanism, which actuates the points at four different locations, and the position indicator.

The outrigger is only necessary to pick the load up laterally, it is retracted before the crane rolls forward about 20 m to reach the point of installation.

lw_crane_kh1.jpg (145067 bytes)

A Gottwald GS 150.14 TR railway crane, operated by the company Leonhard Weiss, is parked at Köln Hbf (Cologne main station) on 23 May 2004. At that weekend some small bridges crossing the street "Am Salzmagazin" near the station were replaced. This crane can travel with up to 100 km/h with it's own power, maximum lifting force is obviously 150 t.
