Camburg (Saale) railway station, signal box Signal box seen at the Camburg (Saale) railway station. It is located on the Saalbahn Großheringen–Saalfeld and served hourly by DB Regio. The signaltower of Bad Schandau is of a DR standard type (another one
of the same characteristic architecture can be found in Heidenau, for
example). You certainly get a good view of train operations from up
there. In the background you can see the bridge over the Elbe to
Rathmannsdorf (that line continues to Sebnitz - Neustadt (Sachsen) -
Neukirch (Lausitz) West).

The signaltower and the station building of Pirna-Rottwerndorf
still exist and seem to be intact, but the extensive station
area has no more tracks. This used to be an important intermediate
station of the line Pirna - Bad Gottleuba and was in service 1880
to 1977. 2001-07-08.

This is a part of the switchboard at Konstanz. The upper tracks
belong to Konstanz-Petershausen on the line to Radolfzell and
Singen (Hohentwiel). The very left part, the southern side, leads
to Kreuzlingen, in fact, the whole railway yard where the IR and
other trains are put, belongs to Swiss territory.

The old signalbox in Buir on the upgraded line Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4)
seen from the south side on 8 December 2001. It is still used to watch the
level crossing, the new signals are controlled by an electronic signalbox
somewhere else. In some months the level crossing will be closed, we will see
what happens to this interesting building then.

else. The shape of the building allows it to look into all four directions
(along the tracks and along the street).

The left building contains the old signalbox of Horrem on the upgraded line
Cologne-Düren
(ABS 4).
The right building was newly errected, so i guess it will contain the
electronic signalbox for the new
Ks
signals that were installed. It's funny that new signalboxes are built
without windows, even if they are direct beneath the rails. In some years there
might be signalmen that don't know how a train looks like in reality ;-). Or
is the new building just for the computer equipment? We will see. The picture
was taken on 9 August 2001.

A signalbox for a playground train (on the left)? No, this signalbox belonged
to the freight yard Gereon in Cologne, which was removed to build the
Mediapark. The signalbox remained at it's old place, which is now a playground.

The old mechanical switchbox in Telgte is still in use.
However some freight tracks and consequently some switch levers
have been removed in the last years.
