These buildings date from the second half of the 19th century; at the beginning of the 20th century this station was replaced by the new station Dresden-Neustadt. This building was built in 1857 by the Leipzig-Dresdener Eisenbahn as "departure hall" of the station Leipziger Bahnhof. In 1901 with the opening of the new station Dresden-Neustadt this station was closed for passenger traffic and used for freight trains since then.
