The station Köln/Bonn Airport seen on 13 June 2004, the first day of
regular service. This is the view from the central gangway above the tracks
(connection between the platforms and access to the emergency exits) onto the
southern end. The access area with the exit to Terminal 1 is hidden in the dark
background. At the outer tracks 1 and 4 the platform is 76 cm above the rails,
these are used for the class 425 EMUs of the RE 8 line. Tracks 2 and 3 have 96
cm platform height and are intended for the S 13, allowing a stepless entrance
into the class 423 S-Bahn (urban trains) EMUs. But sometimes track 3 is blocked
by an ICE which comes from Berlin Ostbahnhof and reverses here, then the S 13
to Troisdorf uses track 4.
