The driver wheels of the 01 1102 are red like those of all German
steam locomotives. It was decided to use a half-open streamline
shell which was introduced after the original shell (which covered
the wheels and side rods) resulted in a number of problems. The
wheels and rods are still original, much of the rest of the
locomotive has been changed over the years.
