In the end of 1981 the oil heated heavy freight steam engines in Sangerhausen and Nordhausen were replaced through the lighter coal heated locomotives class 52.80. On this picture you can see the 52 8096 in Blankenheim (Harz) in march 82.

DR steam locomotive class 52 #8001, Gera Railway Depot Historic DR steam locomotive 52 8001 exhibited on open-door day of Geraer Eisenbahnwelten at Gera Depot. Built by Schichau (serial number 4124) and put into service 19 April 1944. Originally numbered 52 671, it was rebuilt by the Stendal works in 1960 and renumbered to 52 8001. DR 52 8118 was sold for scraping many years ago. Since this time it was parked at the area of the jail in Brandenburg. Meanwhile the owner cancelled all plans to destroy this locomotive and moved it to his own ground at the area of the former steel-plant in Brandenburg. 26th of November 2004.

A third steamer (52 8129) should be parked somewhere at the port of Brandenburg.
