Hannover: Underground station Altenbekener Damm. The Gilde
brewery there offered some old copper beer vats when the
tunnel was built, and so they are here.

Hannover: The station is named "Christuskirche" (Christ Church).
The contrast between the old church and the new station could
hardly be stronger.

Hannover: The Ahlem terminus of line 10. The trains cross the street you
can see, the drivers go to the other end and drive back into the station.

Hannover: While surface trains at Hauptbahnhof (central railway station) are
still common as line 10 still goes there, this is a "9". On June 1st 1997,
they did not follow their normal route due to track works.

Hannover: Garbsen is terminus of line 4 since September 1996. This
Photo was taken two weeks before service was begun. The place to the
right is now the bus station.

Hannover has only few interchange stations between light rail (Stadtbahn)
and suburban rail (S-Bahn). This one was built on a bridge over the
railway Hannover-Berlin some years after the bridge itself. The background
is formed by the MHH (Medical univerity of Hannover) and the televison
tower called "Telemax"

Hannover: Well-known by businesspeople from all over the world, this
is Messegelände, or Messe/Nord as it will be called after the year
2000. When this photo was taken, the CeBIT fair was prepared, but not
yet opened. Twe weeks later, the place looked quite different.

Hannover: Nordhafen, terminus of line 6 at the harbour of northern
Hannover. The trees in the background are already at the other side
of the channel.

Hannover: A station once called Stadthalle, now "CC Stadtpark/Stadthalle"
(Congress center town park/town hall) or just CCS. The uestra made a
design project for bus stops, and this one under the lime trees by Oscar
Tusquets Blanca is one of some unconventional weather houses spread over
the city.

Hannover: The Kirchrode terminus.

Hannover: The new platform Laatzen/Centrum. The track consists
of lengthwise concrete beams. There is also a grey/green "tix"
ticket box for tickets without cash.

Hannover: Laatzen/Werner-von-Siemens-Platz. Two things are
significant there: the mounting of the overhead wire and the
nameplate in front. "Laatzen/Nord" was the name of the station
up to some years ago, but only on this sign, it still is.

Hannover: Langenhagen/Langenforther Platz. A nice station
with its red brick walls, green bushes and classic-style
lamps.

Hannover: Most passengers have never seen it up to now. Behind
Mühlenberg terminus, there are two tracks where the trains can
turn. A temporary wooden platform, rubbish bins and a telephone
make the "restroom". But after 1999, trains will just pass as
behind the wooden partition, the ramp to Wettbergen is built.

Hannover: Replacing one evil with another? Really not! In
fact, most people don't like wild graffity, but this station,
Sedanstraße/Lister Meile looks a lot better since artists
from Hannover and the USA have painted it all over.

Hannover:
The two platforms at Stöcken/Friedhof at Summer 1999, when they were
not yet in use. They never were in this state - the surface had to be
replaced because it was not safe. People could have slided into the
track.
You can also see the switches where the branch line to Leinhausen/ Fuhsestraße depot begins. Photo: Lutz Koch. Text: Sven Herzfeld (herzfeld@maschsee.han.de) |

Hannover:
Laatzen. You see an existing and a former siding, the end of the turning
loop and a TW 2000.

Hannover: Station Kopernikusstraße, branch C-North. Specials:
no pillars, but power rails. There are light shafts over the bright
areas on the ground.

After 25 years, the two outer tracks at Waterloo see service at May 30th
1999, when the short cut of Legionsspange is opened.
