The excavation for the new underground station Bonner Wall in the south of Cologne seen looking onto the southern end on 3 December 2006. On the right a ramp will lead to the end stations Marktstraße on the surface. The sheet pile wall indicates where the branch towards the Rhine (for line 16, 5 and 17 will run to the Marktstraße) will be added later. The narrow gauge tracks coming down the ramp run into the western (right) respectively eastern (left) tunnel to supply the tunneling machines with the concrete segments for the lining. The round basis is used to turn the formwork carriage for the so-called C shell (a C-shaped shell of concrete which is fit into the tunnel at the spots where the lining will be opened laterally to build the stations). The bridge visible at the top carries the freight train line crossing the Rhine in the south of the city. The startup of the new underground line is planned for 2010.
