Measuring car 63 80 99-91 004-1 seen at the rear end of a train waiting at Aachen Hbf on 8 January 2007. It is labelled with "Fahrwegmessung" ("track system measuring"), "RAILab 1" and "DB Netz Instandhaltung" ("DB Netz maintenance", DB Netz is the part of the DB group which is responsible for the railway network). For some reason the diesel-engine with alternator built in at this end of the car (note the air intake) was running, although the loco 103 184-8 at the head of the train should be able to deliver a lot of electricity to the cars. Measuring car 63 80 99-94 025-3 seen in a train waiting at Aachen Hbf on 8 January 2007. It is labelled with "DB Netz Instandhaltung" ("DB Netz maintenance", DB Netz is the part of the DB group which is responsible for the railway network), "Gleismesszug" ("track measuring train") and "Fahrwegmessung" ("track system measuring"). This car is brand-new, the revision date 3 January 2007 indicates that it was in service for just five days when the picture was taken. Unlike other measuring cars, the cab end has a streamlined shape like the cab cars used in IC trains. However the cab was not used on the following run to Cologne, as the loco 103 184-8 was attached at the head of the train (visible at the left edge). The other car is 63 80 99-91 004-1.
