East end of Lérida/Lleida. This picture is looking towards Barcelona. From the Left to the right: single-track conventional line (1668mm-5ft6in, 3kV DC) with a Class 470 running on a "Catalunya Expres" service. single-track HSL (1435mm-4ft8in; 25kV-50Hz AC); gauge-changer, which is used by Altaria services running between Barcelona and Madrid or Zaragoza, using the HSL. One can see a standard-gauge Class 252 there, awaiting a Talgo 7 set coming from Barcelona and due to pass through the gauge-changer. The single-track HSL extends until Puigverd de Lerida, where it connects with the forthcoming by-pass of Lerida, which will enter service together with the 1st stage of the Lerida-Barcelona HSL.
