Capitole2.jpg (86662 bytes)

«Le Capitôle» Paris - Toulouse has both 1st and 2nd class cars since the 1980s. The 2nd class cars were rebuilt from 1st class open plan cars, and are marked with a green stripe above the windows, and no TEE inscription.

Capitole4.jpg (107836 bytes)

Grand Confort generator car on one end of «Le Capitôle du matin», being refueled. The SNCF TEE cars were built with 380 V, 50 Hz 3-phase AC supply, which simplified the equipment of each car, but required a generator car. The advantage is that you can pull these trains with all locomotives, regardless of HEP capability.

You can also see the slightly slanted sidewalls of the Grand Confort cars, which were prepared for tilting (but a tilting system was never installed).

TEE "Grand Confort":

TEE 77 "Capitole du Soir" (Paris Austerlitz--->Toulouse Matabiau). At that time, this was the only "Capitole" which still ran as a TEE (1st-class only), along with the Northbound TEE 74 "Capitole du Matin".

The other pair of "Capitole" services (75 and 76) had indeed just been dowgraded to dual-class Rapide (yet à supplément) on 23rd May 1982...

This surviving TEE pair was eventually to have the same fate, on 30th September 1984.
