Bugatti designed just before WW II this D-D railway fast train. Due to the outbreak of war, the design wasn't able to justify itself. But it has now a resting place in the French Railway Museum CITE DU TRAIN in Mulhouse. Scanned photo by Leon Schrijvers Leon2711schrijvers@yahoo.co.uk

Autorail Bugatti "Présidentiel" ZZy 24408 (XB 1008). 9 units were built for État 1933 to 1935. Length 23.33 m, two 4-axle bogies spaced 16 m, drum brakes, service weight 32 to 35 t. Powered by four 8-cylinder Bugatti Royale engines originally designed for luxury automobiles, hydromechanic transmission, central elevated cab. Regular speed 140 km/h, experimentally 196 km/h. They remained in service until the end of the 1960s, despite high operating costs. 48 seats, panoramic view to both ends.
