PO E1, electric locomotive for 600 V DC, later renumbered to E281 (1500 V), then SNCF BB 1281, built 1900. It was used for Paris-Austerlitz - Paris-Orsay, electrified in the same year with 600 V side rail. These locomotives were inspired by those of the Baltimore & Ohio. They already had four nose-mounted motors in bogies, different from other early electric locomotives with a central motor. They could pull a 200 t train at 60 km/h. After the 1930s, converted to 1500 V DC, they were used as shunters at Paris-Austerlitz and retired in the early 1960s.
