Modern station building (for the Upper concourse), seen from the Pont de Lattes and Avenue Henri Frenay. The whole of this floor was erected from scratch in 1981/1982, in an attempt to relieve historical premises (right).

With only 6 tracks served by 4 rather narrow platforms, one can see that Montpelliers is one of the most cramped major stations in France.

While it had originally been planned to bridge the gap in the foreground (i.e. to extend the Upper concourse until the Pont de Lattes), it is now understood that the station is to be relocated by some 500m further West...
