Refurbished Mk4 Standard-class/Restaurant/Buffet car (SV, Service Vehicle) of GNER, seen at London-King's Cross, awaiting departure to Newcastle.
This car has a remodelled galley. The First-class saloon, used to offer a full Restaurant service, has been rebuilt to Standard-Class. Consequently, GNER has had an extra Standard-class car (TSO) rebuilt into First-class (FO) to retain the full Restaurant service, still available to passengers of both classes, save at peaks when First-class passengers may have priority.
This car has been refurbished in the frame of "Project Mallard". Doors have also been painted all in red, so as to meet the expectations of the Health & Safety Executive, which is keen on having visible doors.
The door in the foreground has retained its previous colours, as it is no longer in use.
