M.C.Metals yard shunting loco, formely Class 20 - 20189,
is pictured at rest after shunting Class 101 2-car DMU
101652 (53198+54346) into the cutting dock at
M.C.Metals,Glasgow on Thu 29-Jan-98 at 13:56.
Originally sold to M.C.Metals for scrap, this loco would almost
certainly ended up as scrap had it not become apparent at
the time that M.C.Metals required a larger locomotive
capable of shunting around the yard the large volume of stock & heavier
locomotives (such the class 45's) that were arriving
quite regular, a job which the previous small shunting loco
could'nt cope with. So to overcome the problem, it was decided
to look over all the Class 20's that were currently in the
yard for breaking for the one that was repairable and in
the best overall condition, and then return it to service as
the yard shunter by using parts & equipment taken from
others. The honour of this befell 20189, but ultimately
seen it shunt many of it's classmembers to their fate.
