Margam had an allocation of 08 shunters from it's opening in the early 1960's until the early 1980's when it was downgraded from a maintenance depot to a loco inspection point. With the closure of Cardiff Canton in 2004 the 37’s from there were transferred to Margam to be it’s first main line locomotives.
