OLD LOCOS STILL GOING STRONG AFTER ALL THESE YEARS.

Some locos that still see main line use in 2008 first took to the rails in the late 1950s or early 1960s making them 40 to 50 years old. Quite remarkable considering they were designed in a very different era.

37401 that first entered service in 1965 as D6968 and then 37268 is one of a small number 37 4s that EWS keeps for charters, assisting on sleepers and freight traffic. Although having mostly been out of use during the previous year or so she made a comeback when other locos in the group were unavailable for a charter earlier in the year. Here we see the loco that has recently been re-painted into EWS colours on the back of the 'Grays-Church Elegy Railtour' near Thameshaven on April 26th 2008.
