47114 <I>Freightliner<B>bulk</B></I> signal checked at Coventry waiting to cross the down main in order to follow a cross country line towards Oxford and Didcot.  Coventry is on the West Coast Main, but is part of the Birmingham loop, the Glasgow main goes directly north via Nuneaton and Lichfield bypassing Coventry and Birmingham New Street.  The WCML narrows to two lines when the Birmingham branch leaves the Glasgow main, but as most traffic is diverted onto the Birmingham loop, this does not matter.  28 Jaunary 2000.
