Kings Cross refueling point in June 1970. Two very shiny class 47/4 locos. 1515 on the left became 47416 and 1552 became 47436 in the 1974 renumbering and they carried these numbers until scrapped.

Class 47/4 in two tone BR Green. Brush type 4 1592 which was later renumbered 47544 with a down Plymouth District express passes Southall MPD on a Saturday morning in June 1972. A Mark I full brake (BG) was marshalled next to the engine and the next two carriages are early Mark II TSOs. I was spending the last few hours photographing trains before catching an Air Canada flight home.
Notice the AEC (Home of London's Buses) sign and factory just above the locomotive.

In 2000 the class 47 was still in service with EWS, however the same cant be said for the 5 fitted vans sitting in the siding.

On 9th October 1989 47417 (one of twenty prototype class 47's built in 1962) stops at Derby with football special charter for Barnsley. These prototype locos had several unique features compared to the rest of the class which made them expensive to maintain, all were withdrawn by 1991.

47467-S239.jpg (110263 bytes)

EWS Class 47/4.

EWS's Component Recovery & Distribution Centre at Wigan has become the final resting place for many redundant locomotives. All locomotives that arrive here are destined for stripping of all reusable components, many of which are now obsolete and are costly and/or hard to obtain. These components are then distributed around to be reused on other sevicable examples in order to keep them going. In this view of 47467 which had arrived here on the 12th December 1998, shows the bodyshell removed from it's bogies and dumped on a wagon at Wigan CR&DC on 14th August 1999.

leeds-47413-a-jp.jpg (122572 bytes)

Large Logo 47413 has just brought this non-working DMU into Leeds on a local service. A number of unit failures had resulted in locos being brought in to run the trains using the units as coaches. The year is probably 1989.

47413 runs round its train...the failed DMU...to prepare for its return journey. The place is Leeds and the year could well be 1989.
