Due to a bridge replacement being undertaken on the WCML just south of Carstairs all WCML services from Glasgow were diverted via the non-electrified G&SW line which resulted in diesel haulage between Glasgow & Carlisle. In this view, 47798 'Prince William', one of two dedicated royal train locos', departs from Glasgow Central at the head of the 12:30 Glasgow Central - London Euston Virgin Trains service on Sun 3rd Oct 1999 at 12:30.
