Virgin Crosscountry long-range 47 853 at Reading sometime in March 2000. This loco was undergoing a swap after coming in from Bournemouth. The coaches will continue on to Glasgow with the loco off Glasgow-Brighton, whilst the coaches for Brighton will be hauled by this loco. On that day engineering works was affecting the London-Basingstoke-Southampton Mainline between Winchester and Basingstoke, as a result the trains were diverted via the West of England main and Salisbury, and it is seen here pulling into Reading after passing Basingstoke. The trains to Glasgow were terminating at Carlisle as a result.
