47732 'Restormel' brings the Serco Overhead Wire Test Train into Chingford Station on Tuesday 3rd February 2004. Loco hauled trains are extremely rare on this line the most likely ones being class 37s and 66s on engineering duties. Class 47s meanwhile would have appeared here only a very few times on test trains such as this. In keeping with the planned EWS run down of its class 47 fleet, just one day later this loco had been stored and regretably may well not see any further active service.

RES 47732 'Restormel' at the Waverley station terminal with another RES 47/7, 47793 'Saint augustine' for company. Plus an EWS class 90. This train still bears the signs of its old number 47580 inside the cab, and a cartoon picture on its side. 25th of September 2002.

Strange cartoon bird adorning the side of RES 47732 'Restormel' . The 47 has carried this picture through the years it from when it was 47580 'county of Essex' and perhaps before. If anyone knows the origin of this I would be interested to know...25/09/02

Double RES 47/7s waiting together at Edinburgh Waverley.. 47732 'Restormel' and 47793 'Saint Augustine' . These two trains look almost identical with matching lights and tatty paintwork. 47732 strangely has no number on the front of it. 25/09/02

47733 Eastern Star powers away from Dawlish with a late running Edinburgh to plymouth service. Running on one engine only, 43160 and 43098 required assistance over the South Devon banks from Exeter. The date is June 1 2002.

RES 47, 47733 'Eastern Star' sitting at the far side of platform 10/11 at Edinburgh Waverley with the engine running. Right after this, EWS 37 37426 unexpectedly growled into the station and stopped just in front. After a long pause in which the EWS folks got out of the train and then hastily back in again the 37 ear-splittingly reversed back the way it had came to arrive a few minutes later on the adjacent line. During this, 2 158 dmus, a '225', and finally a view blocking GNER 125 all passed the 47 by. It was still waiting when I left. 7/10/02

47733 'Eastern Star' is approached by smartly painted EWS 37426 whilst sitting at Waverley station. The two remained there for a while before the 37 powered off into Calton hill tunnel to return a while later and pass the 47 on the next line, heading out of Waverley. 47732 'Restormel' was also briefly on the scene but retreated without my noticing when the 37 arrived. 7/10/02

47737-vs-serco-highams-jp.jpg (54770 bytes)

We have gone down one stop to Highams Park so we can see 47737 supported by 47732 make a truly magnificent and unforgetable sight, brightening the gloom of a British Winters day...am I getting a little carried away...on their return journey to London Liverpool Street on the 3rd February 2004. We are going to miss the Res 47s when they are gone. The idea is that class 67s displaced from Postal duties will be taking over Serco trains soon. Yawn...once you have seen one GM over here you have seen them all! Anyone for tennis?

The VSOE with Res 47726 'Manchester Airport Progress' in charge makes a rare appearence at Stratford Station in the Summer of 2002 due to a line closure. This train uses the British stock for the Venice Simplon Orient Express and serves food to match the splendour the old restored Pullman coaches.

EWS 37426 growls into Waverley station to meet RES 47 47733 'Eastern Star' sitting chugging in its way. The 37 remained here for a while during which the staff got out and then in again in quickly to avoid an approaching 158. Then it reversed ear-splittingly loud into Calton hill tunnel, returning a while later to pass the 47 by on the adjacent line. 7/10/2002
