With a puff of white smoke 56078 sets off from Bow Yard on what will be one of its last freight workings...it is due to take the farewell 56 tour on Wednesday 31st March 2004...with the returning empties to Peterborough and then onto Heck. The loco would have set off from Peterborough at 05.42 arriving at Bow at 10.24 and the complete journey might not see the loco back on depot until after midnight. New locos might be more reliable but they cannot approach the older 'work-horses' for interest and character which is why along with the declining class 47s and 37s, the 56s will be missed by many. Date 29th March 2004.
