57001 'Freightliner Pioneer', which is carrying the new Freightliners livery & logo, is seen on display at the EWS Toton depot open weekend on Sat 29th Aug 1998.
Formerly a Class 47/3 No: 47356, 570001 and other class 47/57 rebuilds, has been rebuilt using a reconditioned GM power unit and a modified Class 56 alternator. Although rated at 2,500hp, the class 57 has improved performance & sanding equipment, giving Type 5 haulage capabilities.

Techinical details are as Class 47 but -
Alternator: Modified Class 56 (brush) BA1101A.
Engine: GM645-12E3 developing 2,500hp @ 900rpm.
Weight: 120.6t.
speed : 75mph.
Starting/Cont Tractive Effort: 55000lbs (245kN)/31500lbs (140kN).
Startin adhesion: 20.7%.
