Virgin's new THUNDERBIRD loco 57302 is appropriately named after one of that programmes famous characters VIRGIL TRACY. Give the loco a truly eyecatching livery and you have got a class of loco that, when you add bright sunshine are going to result in some colourful pictures. Virgin have decided to name all their 12 re-engined class 57 3 locos after characters in the famous Thunderbird puppet series. 57308 which is pictured at Nuneaton on a very sunny July 12th 2003 has the name 'TIN TIN'. Rescue locos in the UK have for some time been refered to as THUNDERBIRDS so these a very appropriate names for the locos. 47851 from 1964 and 57304 the re-engined version face each other at London Euston on the 6th January 2005. The front appearence of the 57 though has been dramatically changed by the addition of a special coupling to enable the loco to attach itself quickly a Pendolino.
